JOIN US REBUILD A SCHOOL IN AFRICA

Fundraising for School Repairs

In 2016 Akabo Community School, Akabo in West Africa was tragically destroyed by an overnight fire that engulfed the structure in a matter of hours. Thankfully, no one was injured. However, the cost to rebuild the gutted infrastructure has overwhelmed the local community. Enrollment has declined significantly and teachers are struggling to hold lessons out of a ramshackle, unsafe structure.

Building Repairs

The African Outreach Foundation (AOF), USA is launching a fundraising campaign to rebuild and repairs two schools: Akabo Community School and Amii Community School in Akabo. Our goal is to start the repairs and the countdown begins now. We are writing to seek your financial support to rebuild and repair the two schools.

Who We Are

We are Florence and LeDit, Founders/CEOs of The African Outreach Foundation (AOF), USA, founded over twenty years ago to meet the basic pressing needs of rural African schools. AOF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the mission to improve access to school materials and quality education in rural Africa. We strive to ensure all students have the tools and resources they need to have basic education. Schools in Cameroon, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Namibia, Nigeria, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia have already benefited from our projects. We could not have accomplished this without support from donors like you. Your contribution will have direct impact on the lives of countless school children in Africa. Thank you for your continued support and commitment!

In January 2018, the Foundation successfully donated school materials and equipment to Akabo Community School’s 245 students, 21 teachers and headmaster, shown in the picture below.

An Urgent Need

This year, Akabo Community School children will be returning to a dilapidated school building that lacks roofs, windows and doors. There are also not enough desks and chairs for all the children and many may have to stand for the entirety of their lessons. PLEASE CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE VIDEO of the school’s current dilapidated state and problematic teaching conditions. As can be seen in the video, the structure is unsafe and not conducive to learning by any standards. Akabo Community School and Amii Community School are also in vital need of clean drinking water and solar power/panels for light. Preparations for the reconstruction have started and we hope to have the doors, roofs, walls, floors and windows installed before the next heavy raining season.

SCHOOLING IN RURAL AFRICA

Equipping impoverished children to read and write

Welcome to The African Outreach Foundation (AOF) Blog! Headquartered in Washington, D.C., AOF is a non-profit humanitarian organization founded by Florence and LeDit more than 20 years ago.We collect books and educational materials for impoverished school children in rural Africa.

Our main focus is to raise awareness to help these children who might otherwise be forgotten. In many parts of Africa, rural schools lack the basic necessities needed to deliver quality education. The picture shows a learning condition in a rural school.

We plan to use this blog to give the children a voice, promote their cause and equip them to read and write. Our activities cover the entire Sub-Saharan Africa, and our goal is to make sure that no child stays home because of lack of educational materials.

Wish List items

  • Textbooks
  • School Supplies
  • School furniture
  • Computer equipment
  • Teaching materials.
Our wish list items are shipped, in response to requests from Peace Corps volunteers www.peacecorps.gov, local community schools or teachers in desperate need of help. We do this in collaboration with African Embassies and Diaspora Organizations in US. Schools in Cameroon, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Namibia, Nigeria, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia have already benefited from our projects.

Recycling
