SCHOOLING IN RURAL AFRICA

Equipping impoverished children to read and write

Welcome to The African Outreach Foundation (AOF) Blog! Headquartered in Washington, D.C., AOF is a non-profit humanitarian organization founded by Florence and LeDit more than 20 years ago.We collect books and educational materials for impoverished school children in rural Africa.

Our main focus is to raise awareness to help these children who might otherwise be forgotten. In many parts of Africa, rural schools lack the basic necessities needed to deliver quality education. The picture shows a learning condition in a rural school.

We plan to use this blog to give the children a voice, promote their cause and equip them to read and write. Our activities cover the entire Sub-Saharan Africa, and our goal is to make sure that no child stays home because of lack of educational materials.

Wish List items

  • Textbooks
  • School Supplies
  • School furniture
  • Computer equipment
  • Teaching materials.
Our wish list items are shipped, in response to requests from Peace Corps volunteers www.peacecorps.gov, local community schools or teachers in desperate need of help. We do this in collaboration with African Embassies and Diaspora Organizations in US. Schools in Cameroon, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Namibia, Nigeria, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia have already benefited from our projects.

Recycling

By reusing thousands of books and school materials, AOF is recycling and contributing to the greening of the environment to save trees and combat Global Climate Change.

Family Support

The Foundation is also reaching out to poor mothers with seed money to start home businesses to support their children’s education, as well as the Elderly homebounds with provisions.

How you can help

We sincerely seek the support of all who cherish the education and future of children. It is your generous donation that translates into a gift of hope for the needy.
